Stains/Oils
I now work solely with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C. This comes either in clear (“Pure”) to enhance and protect the natural beauty of the wood or in tinted versions to simultaneously change the color of the wood and protect it. Examples are below.
Previous Offerings:
Surfaces that were left natural or stained to change the color were then sprayed with a high-quality varnish to seal and protect. Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C now provides this protection and color change in an all-in-one package.

Paint/Lacquer
Pigmented lacquer is the preferred choice for painted pieces. It is a superior product to standard paint and results in a smoother and more durable finish. Lacquer is made by Target Coatings and comes in “Bright White”, “Raven Black” or can be tinted to match any color provided by Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore and Farrow & Ball.
Paint is a Sherwin-Williams hard-drying enamel and is sprayed to a smooth texture.
In addition to a standard paint option, I also offer different levels of distressing depending on the look you’re trying to achieve. These are available on any lighter colored painted piece.
Rustic Vs. Smooth
Unless requested, the default finish is smooth.
For the rustic style, tooling marks are created to add character.
Steel Options
Colored finishes are either spray painted with oil-based enamels or powder coated. Powder coating is a higher quality finish and requires special equipment and is outsourced to a local company. The steel is sandblasted before being coated. Powder coating is a superior alternative to standard paint and provides increased corrosion resistance and durability. A huge variety of colors, sheens and textures are available.
All non-powder coated steel surfaces are coated with a sealer to minimize rust.
